During a tumultuous trading day on Wednesday, the S markets closed mixed.
After trading mostly flat throughout the morning, stocks spiked higher when Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said in a press conference that officials thought it unlikely that they would raise rates again this cycle.

But, investors were unable to hold onto the gains, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq and S&P 500 dropped once more before closing the day down.On Wednesday, the blue-chip Dow finished the day 0.2%, or 87 points, higher. Both the Nasdaq and the S&P 500 had 0.3% declines.
In the end, Wall Street failed to end April's losing run. Following five months of advances, all three major indexes ended the month on a negative note. September 2022 was the worst month for the Dow since that time.
Following the release of a dismal financial report by Advanced Micro Devices, or AMD, chip stock prices dropped. AMD's stock fell 9% on Wednesday. Super Micro Computer's stock fell as well, closing the day 14% down. About 4% decreased for Nvidia.
