The former joint secretary general of Hefazat-e-Islam, Maulana Mamunul Haque, has been released from prison.

Mamunul Haque leaves the prison.

Around 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Mamunul left the Kashimpur High Security Central Jail in Gazipur, according to Senior Jail Superintendent Subrata Kumar Bala, who spoke with the Dhaka Tribune.

Subrata spoke about a group of Hefazat activists and Mamunul Haque's followers waiting for him at the jail gate.
On April 18, 2021, Mamunul was taken into custody by police at a madrasa in Mohammadpur, Dhaka.

According to a person with knowledge of the situation, Mamunul's release was originally scheduled for Thursday night but was delayed because of security concerns.

An Islamic expert who knows Mamunul well claims that the latter is charged in 41 cases that have been submitted to various police stations.

Mamunul discovered Awami League activists around the resort he was vacationing at in Sonargaon, Narayanganj, on April 3, 2021. There with a woman was the former leader of Hefazat.
Subsequently, Hefazat's defenders and activists raided the resort, seized him, and fled.

Fifteen days after that incident, he was arrested.

Then, on April 30, 2021, the aforementioned woman showed up at the Sonargaon police station and reported that Mamunul had sexually assaulted her under the pretext of marriage.
